The Cornell Archaeology Program invites applications for the Hirsch Postdoctoral Associate in Archaeology starting in fall 2009.
the program invites applications from scholars who have completed the Ph.D. within the last five years with a specialization in archaeology. The position is for one year, with the possibility of renewal for a second year. The Hirsch Postdoctoral Associate will teach one undergraduate course (with optional graduate section) each semester, and will deliver at least one public lecture each year (one of which may form part of the Finger Lakes AIA or NYSAA lecture series).
The balance of the Hirsch Postdoctoral Associate's time is to be devoted to his/her own research. The Hirsch Postdoctoral Associate is required to be in residence at Cornell during the semesters of her/his tenure, but is free to conduct fieldwork in the summer or during the winter break if desired.
This position is open to all archaeologists, without restriction on area or time period. It seeks scholars whose work has broad appeal, preferably interdisciplinary across two or more of the constituent departments of the Cornell Archaeology Program (Anthropology, Classics, Historic Preservation, History of Art and Visual Studies, Near Eastern Studies, and Landscape Architecture) and potentially beyond.
The salary for this position will be $40,000 per year, with benefits, and $2,000 per year in research funds. The deadline for receipt of applications is May 1, 2009, with decision expected by May 20, 2009.
Eligibility: Applicants must have received the Ph.D. degree no earlier than May 1, 2004. Applicants who will complete all requirements for the Ph.D. degree (including filing the dissertation) by June 30, 2009 are eligible to apply. The completion date for the Ph.D. degree will in no circumstances be waived or extended.
