Another Day, Another Bunch of Great Schools

Recently, we ventured out to meet new friends around Chiang Mai, and hopefully inspire all to seriously pursue their dreams of college in the USA....sharing the memories above


Today was a Good Day for admission results - Duke, Carnegie Mellon, Berkeley, UC Santa Cruz - congratulations to our advisees in Chiang Mai and Bangkok! So you see, they liked your essays after all the discussions we went through to get your point across.


What a week, admission decisions came fast & furious, scholarships & financial aid really picked up steam to cross that magic $1 Million mark - now we have some momentum!

It's gonna be a big weekend for our friends/advisees/students...we'll be having ice-cream & waiting to hear from each of you. Yes, even you, Tim, of the 5.52am emails ;-)

Fulbright S&T Awards 2010 (Ph.D.)

INTERNATIONAL FULBRIGHT SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY AWARD PROGRAM FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2010

for qualified Thai citizens for study toward Ph.D. in the United States.

GENERAL INFORMATION/PROVISIONS

The objective of this award is to encourage the world’s outstanding students in the field of science, technology and engineering to pursue their advanced studies in the U.S. which has the most attractive destination for serious scientific and technological research and study which not only welcomes top-notch talent, we encourage future leaders to shape their careers through U.S. study.


For the academic year 2010, up to 40 awards will be competed worldwide for candidates who demonstrate unique aptitude and innovation in the field of Aeronautics and Astronomics/Aeronautical Engineering, Astronomy/Planetary Sciences, Biology, Biomedical Engineering Chemistry, Computer Sciences/Engineering, Energy, Engineering (electrical, chemical, civil, mechanical, ocean, and petroleum), Environmental Science/Engineering, Geology/Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, Information Sciences(engineering focus only), Materials Science/Engineering, Mathematics, Neuroscience/Brain and Cognitive Sciences, Oceanography, Public Health (theoretical research focus only), Physics and Agriculture (theoretical and research-based in Entomology, Plant Biology, Plant Pathology, Soil Science).


Up to two applications of nominated candidates from Thailand will be proposed to the Institute of International Education, U.S.A. for final review and selection. Winners will be placed at leading U.S. institutions such as Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Stanford University.

Application Deadline is on May 15, 2009.

Grantees will receive tuition, a monthly stipend for up to 36 months, health and accident coverage, a book and equipment allowance, professional conference allowance, travel support, and specially tailored enrichment activities. After three years, U.S. universities will be expected to cover the remaining expenses toward completion of a Ph.D.

ELIGIBILITY

An applicant must:

  1. be a Thai citizen in good health (Individuals holding U.S. immigrant visas or permanent U.S. resident cards (green cards), or dual (Thai and U.S.) citizenships are not eligible for Fulbright scholarships);
  2. have completed master’s degree before August 1, 2010 and have at least a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or equivalent on academic transcripts both undergraduate and graduate study;
  3. have an official and valid TOEFL score (iBT score of at least 92, or computer-based TOEFL score of at least 237, or paper-based TOEFL score of 580 or higher); (For TOEFL examination, please directly visit website www.toefl.org for more information).
  4. have an eligible General GRE score report with a quantitative score of at least 700 (GRE score report should be sent to IIE by August 17, 2009)
  5. be in Thailand for the interview;
  6. plan to commence their studies in the U.S. in the academic year 2010, and that "Students already in the United States are normally ineligible to apply."
APPLICATION PROCEDURE

1) From February 6, 2009, an application form can be downloaded from www.fulbrightthai.org

2) The application package must be accompanied by:

  1. The completed 5-page application form and 3 photocopies of the original application;

  2. 4 photocopies of university transcript(s) both undergraduate and graduate level for all years of academic study;

  3. 4 photocopies of official and valid TOEFL and General GRE score report;

  4. 3 letters of recommendation in sealed envelopes

(the Fulbright recommendation form A, B, and C are strictly used)

  1. 4 photocopies of resume


3) The completed application and supporting documents can be sent by mail (see address above) or

by hand delivered to the Foundation, but must arrive NO LATER THAN MAY 15, 2009, to be eligible

for consideration. The Foundation is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

So clearly you ve done your research: Princeton & Cornell decisions on Apr 1 (after 4 am TH time), Stanford on Apr 2 (after 7 am TH time), Dartmouth "early apr", and CMU "by Apr 15".
